JOSEPH H. GONYEA III
P.O_ BOX 269
October 20, 2010 SPRINGFIELD, OREGON 97477
Mr. Kurt Corey
Director of Public Works
City of Eugene
101 East Broadway
Eugene, OR 97401
Dear Mr. Corey
My name is Joseph Gonyea, III and I reside at 1810 Firland Boulevard. Our home
and property is at the intersection of Spring Boulevard and Firland Boulevard.
On September 8, 2010 we called the number, listed in the City of Eugene Public
Works Maintenance website, for missing street signs,to direct your attention to
missing street signs in our area. This presents a safety hazard should we have a
need for any emergency services, and a major inconvenience.
There are 3 missing signs:
1) Where Firland "T"s into Spring Boulevard, the "Firland" sign is
missing
2) At the same intersection, the "STOP" sign on Firland and Spring, both the
"Spring Boulevard" and "Firland Boulevard" signs are missing and
are blocked by trees that need to be trimmed.
3) The sign at Firland and Woodson was knocked down and disappeared
more than a year ago.
I believe the signs described in "1)" and "2)" above are within city jurisdiction, while
the sign described in "3)" is perhaps both a city and county issue (refer to enclosed
map).
I know this is a time of serious budget constraints but I ask that you prioritize to
repair and replace these signs as soon as possible as this is a safety hazard when
nearly all of the street markings for Firland are currently nonexistent.
Should you have any questions and would like to discuss this further, feel free to call
me directly ay my office, (541) 747.4577. 1 would also be willing to make a donation
if the funds could be directed to the repair and replacement of Firland Boulevard
signs.
Respectfully,
10
>AW
Cc: Chris Olsen, City of Eugene - Traffic Maintenance Supervisor
Marsha Miller, Lane County - Director of Public Works
Jon Ruiz, Eugene City Manager
