MEMO
Keeping Eugene Dom
1820 RO `
OGN; OREGON
682
FAX (541 6824882
KS AND }
OPEN SPACE P U MNING
A
7
7
TO: Kurt Corey, Public Works Director
CC: Johnny Medlin, Parks and Open Space Director
Eric Wold, Natural Resources Manager
FROM:0 Trevor Taylor, Natural Area Restoration Team Supervisor
ane Steeck, Wetland Ecologist
DATE: July 15, 2010
SUBJECT: Signing Cost- -Share Agreement with the U.S. Forest Service for
$ in Revenue for Native Pla Materials Projects
The City of Eugene and US Forest Service (USFS) staff recently recognized an
opportunity to share costs and expertise that would benefit both parties in our joint
missions to effectively manage, enhance, and restore the natural lands we steward.
Consequently, we have developed a cost share agreement that will provide $50,000
in revenue to the City of Eugene for gathering and summarizing information and
strategies that will assist in developing native plant materials programs on the west
Coast.
The City of Eugene developed one of the earliest and largest programs in Oregon to
collect native plant seed, grow it in nurseries for seed increase, and use these native
plant materials to restore and enhance natural lands in the west Eugene wetlands
and in our dispersed natural areas. Our innovative and successful program is
recognized nationally and is the reason that the USFS is seeking our expertise in this
partnership agreement.
The City's contribution to this cost -share agreement will consist of the sharing and
revision of plant collection profiles that we have developed over the past decade and
that we use annually in our own native plant materials program, as well as
approximately 3.5 days of supervisory time, and $2,085 in City indirect costs. The
bulk of the work will be completed November 2010 through May 2011. The
agreement timeline- allows for future partnering opportunities with the USFS, if both
parties find it mutually beneficial.
Please sign the attached copies of the cost -share agreement and return them to Kris
Aanderud (x4966). Thanks.
Attachments:
1. Routing form for contract 2011 -05404
2. 2 copies of contract 2011- -05404
