September 20, 2010

CONTACT:
Danny Lima, Technical Specialist, 541-682-4800

From Public Information Section, 541-682-5523 or 541-954-2938
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Traffic Advisory
Rain Reschedules Paving Work that Will Slow Traffic on Bethel Drive

The paving of Bethel Drive between Highway 99 and Roosevelt Boulevard has been
rescheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, September 21-22, in hopes that the weather will be
drier and more suitable for asphalt work.
Crews from Eugene Public Works Maintenance will be repairing about a half mile of
Bethel Drive between Wood Avenue and Allane Avenue. Traffic will be reduced to one lane,
controlled by flaggers, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. until the repairs are finished. Plans call for
work in the southbound lane on Tuesday, switching to the northbound lane on Wednesday,
weather permitting.
The work includes sweeping the street surface, applying a thin coat of a sticky sealant
and then applying a two-inch-thick layer of new asphalt. This type of work requires dry
pavement. Intersections and driveways, including access to the Red Cross, will be blocked
briefly while paving is occurring directly in front of those locations.
This repair work is funded through Eugene’s road fund, which comes primarily from the
city’s share of state gas taxes. For more information about this project and other surface repair
work and pothole patching, contact Eugene Public Works Maintenance at 541-682-4800

# # #

Public Works Administration ● City of Eugene ● 101 E.
