As outlined in the Request for Release of Funds
and the Expenditure Tracking sheet, we are requesting a reimbursement of $65,952.08. Our
total grant award was $204,368 and our project completion date is 12/31/2011, thus
$138,415.92 in funds remain.
In 2008 and 2009 we created 1.5 acres of new riparian habitat by converting 1,500 linear feet
of steep, blackberry covered banks to gradually sloping riparian benches. The new benches
were topped with a blend of compost and soil, seeded with native £orbs and grasses, and
planted with thousands of native trees, shrubs, and emergent plants.
Funding from this grant was also used to remove invasive species on approximately 30 acres
of land within the Delta Ponds project site. We had originally hoped to plant an additional 12
acres of riparian habitat in 2008/09; however we decided that we would be more successful
with the plantings if we conducted an additional year of site prep (invasive species control).
This fall we will perform an additional round of weed control, followed by tree and shrub
planting in late 2009 /early 2010. Both the 2008/09 and 2009/10 plantings will be watered for
two years. Plant inspections will take place each year in September to determine percent
survival of the plantings. The final plant inspections for the 2008/09 plantings will take place
in September 2010, while final inspections for the 2009/10 plantings will take place in 2011.
If survival rates are lower than 80% we will be requiring the contractor to replant to bring the
plant quantities up to the desired levels.
We are grateful to the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board for supporting this project. It
provided much needed funds to establish native riparian habitat along newly constructed
riparian benches and to further our efforts to enhance existing riparian habitat through
invasive species control and native plantings. We remain committed to continuing our
stewardship of this project and ensuring that the benefits are maintained and enhanced
through time. Thank you kindly for your support.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 541- 682 -4925.
Sincerely,
Lauri Holts
Natural Resources Coordinator
Parks and Open Space Division
f, Er wcer>
