August 10, 2010

CONTACT:
Matt Rodrigues, Project Manager, 541-682-6036

From Public Information Section, 541-682-5523 or 541-954-2938
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Traffic Advisory
th
Paving Work Will Slow Traffic on 13 Avenue Starting Wednesday
Paving is scheduled to begin Wednesday morning, August 11, and continue through
th
Friday, August 13, on 13 Avenue between Washington and Alder streets. Motorists are likely to
encounter significant traffic delays during daytime work hours and are encouraged to use
alternate routes.
Last week, Knife River Construction removed the top layer of deteriorated pavement on
th
the 13-block section of 13 Avenue and prepared the surface for a new, 3-inch-thick top layer of
asphalt. Previously the contractor installed accessible pedestrian ramps and repaired concrete
th
curbing at various locations along 13 Avenue. Once the top lift paving is completed the final
steps include applying new pavement markings and general clean-up work. The project
schedule calls for all work to be completed by the end of August.
During this week’s paving operation, crews generally will pave from west to east. Traffic
signals will be temporarily disabled in active work zones, and flaggers will control traffic. Plans
th
call for at least on lane to be kept open on 13 Avenue at all times. However, motorists should
expect delays and trucks and other equipment in the travel lanes, particularly in active paving
th
work zones. Also, traffic on streets that cross 13 will be delayed or detoured while paving is
occurring in those intersections.
For up-to-date information about this and other road projects in the Eugene area, go to
www.eugene-or.gov/traffic or call the metro roadwork hotline at 541-984-8484.

# # #

Public Works Administration ● City of Eugene ● 101 E.
