FY: 2010 (July 2009 -June 2010) <br />Accomplishments in support of implementation of the HP: Forest Management Plan <br />• Collaborated with Friends of Hendricks Park to develop a refined work plan and supporting budget to <br />advance OFDIU Restoration and Enhancement and control of invasive vegetation within the broader forest. <br />• Provided support to FoHP to raise funds to support the stewardship program and associated objectives. <br />• Prepared articles for the FoHP newsletter. <br />• Led implementation of the OFMU Restoration and Enhancement project including: <br />• Collaboration with City POS staff to implement vegetation management actions, <br />• Lead tours showcasing urban forest management. <br />• Coordinated crews, including Outdoor HS and Walama RP, to control invasive vegetation within <br />the understory of the OFNfU. <br />• Designed planting plan for area adjacent to Highland Avenue trailhead, <br />• Facilitated volunteer activities to control invasive vegetation, establish native plants, remove slash, <br />and create habitat features. <br />• Coordinated with neighbors and students from UofO regarding phase I1 project implementation as <br />well as future enhancement activities. <br />• Broadcasted native seed mix to enhance diversity of native species within OFMU and vegetate areas <br />of disturbance (as a result of vegetation management actions). <br />• Recruited students from LCC and UofO to volunteer and support stewardship of Hendricks Park, including: <br />• High School Equivalency Program — (1) work party, <br />• Environmental Studies Program — (3) work parties, <br />Service Learning and Neighborhood enhancement program - (3) work parties. <br />Led contract and volunteer crews to advance control of invasive vegetation within Hendricks Park including. <br />• English ivy removal by volunteers within a 1.25 acre area, October - February. <br />• Armenian blackberry control within 25 acre area (formerly occupied by English ivy) by Oregon <br />Woods crew, <br />• Secondary invader control (herb Robert, nipplewort, and wall lettuce) within 10 acre area by Oregon <br />%Voods crew <br />• Trailside weeding to control secondary invaders by Outdoor HS (NYC) crew. <br />• Assorted species of invasive vegetation in proximity to the donated bench located at the "saddle" by <br />Oregon Woods Crew. <br />• Coordinated and lead (10) monthly work parties in collaboration with Friends of Hendricks Park to control <br />invasive vegetation along trail corridors and in the forest interior, maintain trails, and establish native <br />vegetation. <br />• Coordinated (2) "Day of Caring" events with United Way partners Oregon Medical Group and Garage <br />Games. Volunteers cleared vegetation along the "Lover's Loop trail" in preparation for trail corridor <br />improvements. <br />• Collaborated with the Camas Educational Network to recruit high school youth to assist with stewardship of <br />habitat within the park while satisfying community service graduation requirements (winter 2010). <br />Coordinated (1) work party for (20) students and (2) teachers from the Network Charter School. <br />Coordinated Martin Luther King work party in collaboration with Camas Educational Network, Northwest <br />Youth Corps, and students from the University of Oregon. <br />Coordinated Earth Day work parties for students from Outdoor HS, Riverfront School, and the University <br />of Oregon <br />Supported sword fern propagation project with students at the NYC outdoor high school. <br />• Cleaned and inventoried collections of native seed. <br />• Provided support to address encroachment issues including meeting with neighbors. <br />• Brokered new relationships with existing partners (FoHP, NYC, and Oregon Woods) to expand available <br />resources (fund raising strategy to secure Neighborhood Matching grant) to advance stewardship of park <br />habitats by improving the Floral Hill Trail while nurturing relationships with Fairmount Neighborhood <br />Association and Laurel Hill Valley Neighborhood Association. Project implementation will occur during FY <br />2011. <br />• Initiated development of new strategies to advance control of invasive vegetation within the forest. <br />
