July 8, 2010

CONTACT:
John Bonham, Project Manager, 541-682-5300

From Public Information Section, 541-682-5523 or 541-954-2938
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

th
Intersection of Willamette Street and 29 Avenue Reopens on Friday
th
The intersection of Willamette Street and 29 Avenue in south Eugene will fully reopen
to traffic on Friday morning, July 9.
The busy intersection has been restricted to one lane in each direction, controlled by a
four-way stop, since late April, when work began to rebuild the intersection using full-depth
concrete. After a slow, rainy start, the project rolled into in high gear as the weather improved,
and substantive completion of the work actually finished slightly ahead of schedule.
Motorists may still see construction workers and equipment in the area for several days
as final cleanup is completed. In several weeks, after the new concrete surface is completely
dry, crews will return to apply final striping in the intersection. The work will be done at night to
minimize traffic disruption.
The intersection repairs were done by Brown Contracting of Eugene. The main source of
funding for the $800,000 project is Eugene’s 2008 voter-approved bond measure to fix streets.
th
While the reopening of the intersection of Willamette Street and 29 Avenue intersection
is good news for commuters and businesses in that part of town, plenty of other road work
thnd
projects will be in full swing next week, including Willamette Street from 46 to 52 avenues,
thrd
High Street between Fifth and 11 avenues, 33 Avenue between Willamette and Hilyard
thth
streets, Patterson Street (closed) between 19 and 24 avenues, Harlow Road between Coburg
th
Road and I-5, West 18 Avenue between City View and Chambers, Crest Drive area streets,
Goodpasture Island Road (closed just north of Valley River Center), and Valley River Drive from
Willakenzie to Goodpasture Island roads.
For up-to-date information about these and other road projects in Eugene, go to the
traffic relief web site at www.eugene-or.gov/traffic or call the traffic relief hotline, 541-984-8484.
# # #

Public Works Administration ● City of Eugene ● 101 E.
