The heavily traveled intersection will
be rebuilt with concrete surfacing, ensuring that the new paving will hold up for many years.
Approximately 30,000 vehicles per day travel through the intersection on an average day.
“To construct the project without closing the road we need to shift traffic around and do
the work in stages – half the street at a time,” said project manager John Bonham. “This will
definitely reduce capacity through the intersection during construction.”
Each phase of the project will take about two weeks. The traffic signal will be turned off
and replaced with stop signs to create a four-way stop.
“With the traffic control changes and the amount of work being done at this location, it’s
important to be attentive and use caution when driving, walking or biking through this area, even
when work crews aren’t present,” Bonham said.
“We will maintain access to the businesses in this area,” Bonham said, “but the best
way to avoid construction delays is to use alternate routes until we’ve finished the repairs.”
The repar work is scheduled to be completed by July 31.
The repair work will be done by Brown Contracting of Eugene, which submitted the low
bid of $553,000. The primary source of funding for the repair project is the 2008 voter-approved
bond measure to fix streets.
Up-to-date information about this and other road-repair projects in Eugene is available
online at www.eugene-or.gov/traffic, by calling the metro roadwork hotline at 541-984-8484, or
sign up to receive traffic updates at www.Twitter.com/EugenePW.
# # #

Public Works Administration ?
