News Release – $18 Million Tiger Grant
September 16, 2009
Page 2

In announcing the TIGER grant program last spring, U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray
LaHood said TIGER grants will “promote greater mobility, a cleaner environment and more livable
communities.” In a letter sent to LaHood this week in support of the grant application, Mayor Kitty
Piercy said the Eugene project will result in significant safety enhancements, high-quality bicycle
and pedestrian facilities and a signature gateway into the community.
“Our community has struggled for years to come to agreement on how to improve
transportation access to and through west Eugene,” Piercy added in her letter. “The West Eugene
Collaborative’s unique collaborative approach has shown that it is possible to bring people
together around transportation solutions that address both environmental sustainability and
economic development.”
# # #

Public Works Administration ?
