September 14, 2009

CONTACT:
Sarah Thorpe, Transportation Planning Intern, 682-5378

From Public Information Section, 682-5523 or 541-954-2938
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Final Breakfast At The Bridges Event Celebrates Walking and Biking To School

The City of Eugene will be partnering with Safe Routes To School and heading “Back to
School” for its final Breakfast at the Bridges of the summer this Friday, September 18, from 7 to
9:30 a.m. at the Blue Heron Bike Bridge across from Cesar Chavez school.
The event will include free bagels and coffee, waffles and bike-blended smoothies, free
bike bells installed on bikes, bike safety checks provided by Revolution Cycles and Arriving By
Bike, bike registration by the Eugene Police Department, and other bike information from the
City of Eugene and Safe Routes to School. This final event of the summer will celebrate
walking and biking back to school and help students and parents get ready for Walk and Bike to
School day on October 7.
Breakfast at the Bridges is a share-the-path event sponsored by the City of Eugene and
the Eye to Eye campaign. It is designed for bike path users and commuters to stop by on their
way to work or during a morning ride, grab a bite to eat and a cup of coffee, meet City staff,
learn more about biking in Eugene, and get a quick safety check all at the same time. The
event features local advocacy organizations working with the City of Eugene, along with other
local businesses providing breakfast and bike repairs. The first three Breakfast at the Bridges
this year were a great success, serving more than 150 people in the community.
Special thanks to all the volunteers and local business donors who make these events
possible: Wandering Goat Coffee Company, Starbucks, Springfield Creamery, Bagel Sphere,
Off the Waffle, North West Community Credit Union, Collin’s Cycle Shop, Wheel Works, Paul’s
Bicycle Way of Life, Revolution Cycles, Arriving by Bike, GEARs, Bike Lane Coalition, and Safe
Routes to School.
