December 20, 2008
CONTACT:
Eric Jones, Public Affairs Manager, 541-954-2938
From Public Information Section, 682-5523 or 954-2938
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Eugene Lifts Emergency Parking Ban
The City of Eugene has lifted a ban on parking on emergency ice-snow routes and
deactivated its Public Works emergency command center, effective at 11:30 today.
The decision to cease emergency operations is based on a forecast by the National
Weather Service that temperatures will be above freezing on the valley floor through the weekend.
Public Works staff continues to weather conditions and will reinstate the parking ban if ice
or more than an inch of snow accumulates on city streets.
Except for a short break on Thursday, Eugene Public Works has been in round-the-clock
operations since early Monday morning. As of Thursday, crews had applied more than 1,000 cubic
yards of sand and used several thousand gallons of liquid deicer to provide traction on priority ice-
snow routes. Once the current series of storms is over, Maintenance crews will sweep the streets
to pick up leftover sand.
For details on where priority ice-snow routes are located and for information on drivers’
responsibilities if an ice-snow emergency is declared, visit www.eugene-or.gov/pw or call Eugene
Public Works Maintenance at 682-4800.
# # #
Eugene Public Works www.eugene-or.gov/pw
858 Pearl Street, Eugene, Oregon 97501 541-682-5523 fax 541-682-6826 e-mail pwadmin@ci.eugene.or.us
