August 13, 2009

CONTACT:
Matt Rodrigues, Pavement Preservation Program Manager, 541-682-6036

From Public Information Section, 682-5523 or 541-954-2938
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Road Repairs to Start Soon on Sixth, Seventh and Eleventh Avenues
Several of Eugene’s busiest streets will be under construction in August.
Wildish Construction, working under contract to the Eugene Public Works Department,
on Friday, August 14, is scheduled to start a $1.1 million project to repair Sixth and Seventh
th
avenues from High to Washington streets and 11 Avenue from Garfield to Tyinn streets.
On Sixth and Seventh avenues, the repairs will consist of curb-to-curb paving between
the east side of High Street and the east side of Washington Street. This is a two-step process
in which the top layer of deteriorated paving is ground off, and then a new asphalt surface is
constructed. The project also includes repairing underground storm and wastewater lines in the
intersection of Sixth Avenue and High Street. To do that work the contractor is scheduled to
close the intersection of High Street and Sixth Avenue from 8 p.m. Friday, August 14, to 6 a.m.
Monday, August 17. Westbound traffic on Sixth Avenue will be rerouted to Eighth Avenue. High
Street will be closed to northbound through traffic at Sixth Avenue but vehicles will be allowed to
turn left from High Street onto westbound Sixth Avenue.
th
On West 11 Avenue the repairs will focus primarily on failed sections of paving in the
eastbound curbside lane. However there also will be repairs as needed in other lanes.
Much of the work will be done at between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. to minimize traffic delays.
On Sixth and Seventh avenues some of the noisier work such as concrete removal and
th
excavation will be done between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Work on Sixth, Seventh and 11 avenues is
scheduled to be completed by October 2.
Also this week, crews from Wildish Construction began work on three other street
thth
projects: Bertelsen Road from 11 to 18 avenues, Seneca Road from Roosevelt Boulevard to
th
Seventh Avenue, and McKinley Street from Fifth to 11 avenues. Repairs to those streets are
scheduled to be completed by October 2.
For up-to-date information about these and other Eugene road projects, go to
www.eugene-or.gov/traffic, on Twitter at www.twitter.com/EugenePW, or call the metro
roadwork hotline at 541-984-8484.
# # #

Public Works Administration ?
