PROVIDING MORE SPACC FOR THE DOG OFF LEASI-I AREA. HOWEVER A CONCERN WAS
EXPRESSED THAT THIS WOULD PLACE THE DOG PARK CLOSER TO THE PLAYGROUND
AND THAT SOME VIEWED THE "GRASSY MOUND" AS A DISIREABLE PLAY FEATURE
FOR THE KIDS. (Staff will take a closer look at the alignment of the open waterway, but feel
it is important to keep the grassy mound as a key play feature.)
® ANOTHER SUGGESTION WAS MADE TO ALLOW THE DOG PARK TO INCREASE IN SIZE
BY MOVING THE BASKETBALL COURT FURTHER TO THE WEST TO WHERE THE
GRASSY MOUND IS NOW AND MOVING THE PLAYGROUND NORTHWARD. (Staff feels
that this will compromise the functionality of the activity area and make it less visible from
the intersection at Royal Avenue.)
Pa~°kaat
• CONCERN WAS RAISED REGARDING THE AMOUNT OF PARKING AROUND THE PARK
SITE, THAT IT MAY NOT BE SUFFICIENT IF THE NEIGHBORS WOULD USE THE
CURBSIDE PARKING AROUND THE PARK. (Staff noted that there should be approximately
45curbside parking spaces along the park frontage and that this could be controlled by
signage limiting the time on parking.)
Access and Restroom
• GIVEN THE ANTICIPATED DEVELOPMENT OF THE PARK SITE, THE AUDIENCE
THOUGHT ACCESS FROM DANELAND MOBILE HOME PARK WOULD BE IDEAL. (Staff
commented that if the mobile home park desired access, that they could easily create a link to
the public street system immediately north of the park and have good access. The City would
encourage this to happen, as it would create better access to the public park. A perimeter
fence surrounds Currently the mobile home park.)
• .AFTER THE STAFF GAVE A BRIEF EXPLAINATION OF THE TRAILS AND PATHS ON THE
PARK SITE, SEVERAL IN THE AUDIENCE APPAUDED THE INTENTION TO PROVIDE
ACCESSIBILITY AND EXERCISE STATIONS FOR NOT ONLY THE YOUTH, BUT FOR
ELDERLY AND HANDICAPPED THRU THE USE OF SPECIAL "LifeTrail" KIOSKS AND
EXERCISE STATIONS OR SOMETHING SIMILAR.
• A SHORT DISCUSSION AFFFIRMED THE NEED FOR RESTROOM FACILITIES AT THE
PARK. SOME FELT SEASONAL OR PORTABLE UNITS WOULD NOT BE ACCEPTABLE.
(Staff informed people that permanent restrooms could range from approximately $60,000 for
prefabricated or unisex to $150,000 or more for full standard restrooms. Staff informed the
audience that a sanitary stub out has already been provided with the subdivision
construction.)
• A SUGGESTION WAS MADE TO CONSIDER MOVING THE RESTROOM LOCATION
FURTHER NORTH, PUTTING IT IN CLOSER PROXIMITY TO THE OPEN PLAYFIELD,
NORTH OF THE PLAYGROUND. DOG PARK USERS IN THE AUDIENCE DID NOT FEEL
THAT THE RESTROOM NEEDD TO BE CLOSE TO THE ACCESS ROUTE TO THE OFF
LEASH AREA. (Staff indicated that they would take a look at moving the restroom. In any
case, some felt that having a dog tie-up feature near the restroom would be beneficial.)
• A REQUEST WAS MADE TO MAKE THE SIDEWALK ALONG THRONE DRIVE AS WIDE AS
POSSIBLE. (A six foot wide sidewalk along public streets is fairly typical, but when adjacent
to park sites, the City has been increasing the width to as much as eight feet wide. We will
look at widening the sidewalks at Candlelight also.)
