'"~

`~
~~

`.1

Section 2. Executive summary
Survey sample
Airline booking information was collected for
calendar year 2004. A total of 70,869 airline
bookings were tabulated and included in the
Passenger Demand Analysis. The data used is
a sample of airline bookings NOT all bookings
within the .period.
Airport catchment area
Eugene Airport has an airport catchment area
that includes an estimated population of
615,668. It includes 87 zip codes in the state of
Oregon.
Departures and available seats
Four carriers served Eugene Airport in
December 2004 to nine nonstop destinations.
There were 207 weekly departures and 9,807
available seats during the week of December 6,
2004. Of the 207 weekly departures, 55.1
percent were made with jet aircraft. Portland
International Airport, the primary competing
airport, offered 1,696 weekly departures with
169,072 available seats. Of the Portland
departures, 83.2 percent of departures were
operated with jet aircraft.
Airport activity comparisons
From calendar year 1995 to calendar year 2004,
Eugene Airport's enplanements experienced
essentially no overall change. From 2000 to
2003 enplanements dropped by 20.3 percent. A
significant recovery occurred in 2004 with
enplanements increasing by 16.8 percent to
343,598. Portland International Airport
enplanements increased at a compounded
annual growth rate of 1.6 percent over the same
time period. For Portland International Airport
enplanements, calendar year 2004 represents
three quarters actual data and one quarter
estimated data.
F;UGE'NF.,
AIRPORT
Section 2
Executive summary
Airport use
Of the air travelers in the survey sample, 52.9
percent originated their air travel at Eugene
Airport, while 47.1 percent used Portland
International Airport. When only domestic
destinations are considered, Eugene Airport
retention improved when compared to the 2004
Passenger Demand Analysis increasing from
52.1 to 55.4 percent. However, Eugene Airport
retention dipped marginally compared to the
prior year when only international itineraries are
considered. Compared to the last survey,
overall Eugene Airport retention improved from
50.3 percent to 52.9 percent.
Destinations
Of the survey air travelers, 49.3 percent were
destined for one of the top 25 markets. Los
Angeles was the number one destination for the
survey sample. Eugene Airport retained 67.5
percent of the survey travelers destined for Los
Angeles. Eugene Airport retained 58.6 percent
of travelers destined for Las Vegas (the number
two survey destination) and 83.1 percent of the
survey air travelers destined for San Francisco
(the number three survey destination). There
was no change in the rankings of the top five
survey destinations when compared to the prior
year survey.
Nonstop service
Eugene Airport offered nonstop service to nine
destinations: Denver, Los Angeles, Las Vegas,
Medford, Portland, Phoenix, San Francisco,
Seattle, and Salt Lake City. With the exception
of Portland and Medford, all destinations were in
the survey's top 25 destinations. Portland
International Airport offered nonstop service to
48 destinations; 21 of those were in the Eugene
Airport catchment area top 25 destinations.
Page 3
