RIVER ROAD RESIDENTS' VIEWS OF ANNEXATION
River Road Residents Are Against
Annexation At This Time
Nearly two out of every three voters (65%) oppose annexation, with over half
(52%) strongly opposed. Furthermore, attitudes toward annexation are fairly well
crystallized, with only one in ten persons (9%) undecided.
There is a pervasive pattern of opposition, with all demographic groups
preferring status quo. Opposition peaks among senior citizens and long-range
residents.
However, anti-annexation attitudes are susceptible to change when specific
premises are posed or "promises" made.
For example:
• Deferment of property tax payments for ten years
lifts the level of support above the majority mark,
• Improved police protection has the potential to
significantly increase support for annexation,. and
• A $750 reduction in sewer fee assessmenf also improves
:the picture, but the sewer "mandate" does little to
muster support for annexation.
Present voting patterns are illustrated on the following page, after which the
potential persuasive power of pro-annexation arguments is charted.
ES 1
,_
