RIVER ROAD RESIDENTS' VIEWS OF ANNEXATION
Fire, police and traffic safety are "verv important" to a substantial majority of
River Road residents, with road maintenance, parks/recreation and library
services of secondary importance. All, however, contribute to the health of
the community.
Now, with these importance ratings in mind, let's check perceptions on
whether annexation would improve River Road services along the following
dimensions.
If voters see significant improvements in specific services through
annexation, this becomes an educational opportunity. In most cases,
however, this does not prove to be the case. °
Voters do feel that library services would improve, but one must remember
that library services has a relatively low importance rating, which dilutes the
effectiveness of this theme.
The theme with the most potential impact is police services, where 36%
predict improvement through annexation. Those most likely to expect better
police protection are younger and older residents of the area.
All in all, it appears that communications should stress the overall gains in
integration of (all) services, with emphasis on the most important items such
as library and police services. River Road residents are pretty satisfied with
the individual services they now have, but the cumulative benefits of the
package of programs should curry additional support.
PAGE 7
