Each item has an established inven-
torylevel that depends on the value of the item, its
turnover rate, its priority in an emergency, and the
available storage space. As an item is used, its
number is entered into the computer and stock
levels are adj usted. The computer produces a reor-
derreport when an item reaches its reorder point.
Requests to stock new items are made by supervi-
sors.Requests includespecific informationonquan-
^ TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
The storeroom also manages and issues tools and
equipment, such as drill bits, wrenches, exhaust
fans, extension cords, shovels, and ladders. This
ensures the proper tools and equipment are readily
available and in good working condition when
needed. The replacement value of the tools and
equipment the storeroommanages is approximately
$30,000.
^ PROPERTY CONTROL
The plant has established property control proce-
dures to maintain a record of plant equipment and
to track equipment maintenance purchases. All
valuable equipment is identified with a unique
property code number. Expendables are available to all employees in
the shop area and are not part of the computer-
controlled inventory. One person
is responsible for making sure that supplies and
equipment received are in good condition and are
forwarded to appropriate work areas. To ship a
package, plant employees contact stores staff and
describe the shipment, the destination, and the
time line. Stores employees package the goods to
meet insurance coverage requirements and coor-
dinate with a freight company for transport.
Freight is delivered at the centralized storeroom.
