Oregon Inventory of Historic Properties
Historic Resource Survey Form
Paae 2
County: Lane
Statement of Signficance (Use additional sheets if necessary)
Narrative Physical Description:
This one-story massed-plan vernacular bungalow is irregular in plan. The main volume of the house is
square with several additions on the back of the house and a front porch. The porch has gambrel style
openings for the entry door and the side windows. The house is wood-frame and built on a concrete
foundation. Composition shingles cover the entire roof volume and clapboard covers the exterior walls.
Fenestration is varied and includes the original one-over-one double hung sash windows and replacement
aluminum framed sliding glass windows.
Historical Significance:
This house was built toward the beginning of a population boom in Springfield, in which there was a 184
percent increase in Springfield's population from 1940 to 1950. During this same period, the average growth
rate for the county was 82.9 percent. J.M. and May Siebenthaler axe listed as the first owners of this house
when it was built in 1943. William and Marie .E. Greig were the subsequent owners beginning in 1947.
Marie Greig was a pharmacist but no occupation is listed for her husband, William. Based on the research, it
does not appeax that this house is associated with any historical events or people, nor does it possess any
architectural significance. HRA recommends that 122 W. C Street be determined not eligible for the
National Register of Historic Places.
References:
Eugene Springfield City Directory
1953 Eugene Springfield City Directory.
