Oregon Inventory of Historic Properties
Historic Resource Survey Form
Paris ~
County: Lane
Statement of Signficance (Use additional sheets if necessary)
Narrative Physical Description:
This one-and-a-half story, wood framed house on a concrete foundation can best be described as vernacular.
This style is typified by its simplicity and void of distinctive stylistic features. It is afront-gabled house with
an enclosed gabled entry, and various multi-pane windows, including six-over-six and eight-over-eight
double hung sash windows. Windows on the rear facade do not appear to be original. The house's original
plan appears to be rectangular but it has been modified by several linear additions to the rear fagade.
Composition shingles cover the roof and sluplap siding clads the house's exterior walls.
Historical Significance:
The Lane County Assessors records indicate that this house was built in 1929 and that it was owned by Elmer
J. Harris. Subsequently, Samuel and Jessie V. Stephens owned the house before it was transferred to Omer
Cox and Verna Cos in 1946. Research did not reveal any occupation or further information about these
residents. Based on the research, it does not appear that this house is associated with any historical events or
people, nor does it possess any architectural significance. HRA recommends that 253 W. D Street be
determined not eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
References:
Eugene Springfield City Directory
1952 Eugene Springfield City Directory.
