Summary of Impacts
Safety and Security
The proposed courthouse would incorporate current safety design standards, such as secure
transport of detainees, secure parking for 80 court employees, and separate circulation systems
for court staff, prisoners, and the public. These measures would improve the safety and security
of all users of the federal courthouse.
The Springfield alternative site is located farther from the Lane County jail than the Eugene
alternative site, and detainees housed at that facility would need to be transported a greater
distance if the Springfield alternative is selected (Alternative 1). This additional distance would
not result in a significant impact on public. safety.
Final EIS 14 New Federal Courthouse
