The rd Amazon Park <br />Workshop <br />report <br />May 25, 2004 <br />The 3rd and final workshop for the Amazon Park planning process was held on Tuesday, May <br />25th at the Amazon .Community Center. The purpose of the event was to share the draft <br />concept design and prioritized improvement plan with the public, and allow additional input on <br />the proposals. <br />An open house format allowed participants to review the proposals and take aself-guided tour <br />through the park of the proposed improvements. Approximately 50 individuals participated in <br />the event. Two different plans were displayed: <br />^ the Concept Design for the park, showing overall goals and improvements for the- park, and <br />^ the Priority Improvement Plan, which identifies projects that are earmarked for available <br />funding. <br />Comments on both these plans were accepted through June 21st, 2004. Also on display was a <br />model of the "zig zag bridge" which is a 1 % for art piece which will be installed as a crossing <br />over Amazon Creek. <br />Four stations were set up in the park to provide further information on the improvements which <br />were identified for funding. The stations were staffed by Parks and Open Space and Recreation <br />Division staff, and a tour guide was provided to participants. The four stations were located at: <br />^ the .dog .park, <br />^ the new bridge crossing location, <br />^ the renovated ballfield and new path locations, and <br />^ the new restroom location. <br />The self-guided tour highlighed the projects which have been prioritized for available funding. <br />These projects include: <br />^ dog park improvements <br />^ anew bridge over Amazon Creek <br />^ drainage and surfacing improvements to Adidas Trail <br />^ prairie enhancements and a native plant buffer <br />^ new path connections <br />^ renovation and expansion of Century Ballfield <br />^ temporary overflow parking in unimproved grass areas during peak summer pool hours <br />^ anew restroom <br />^ new benches and plantings along the bike path <br />Additional priority improvements include: shielding the existing tennis court lights to reduce <br />glare, and- installing a signalized crossing and intersection at 26th and Hilyard by year 2006. <br />Participants were also invited to fill out a questionnaire and place a flag in a location where they <br />desired a place for sitting.
