soliciting community proposals for a full range of reasonable options for Amazon Park; and <br />undertaking a new Amazon Park and ballfields master plan. <br />The public comment period was opened to the entire audience. A large number of community <br />members provided input and discussion during this period which lasted for over one hour. The <br />comments were recorded on a wallgraphic at the front of the room in five different categories: <br />General Park Improvements <br />^ Address visual clutter: <br />Protect views of butte <br />Minimize fences, backstops, etc. - <br />Add landscaping at tennis courts <br />^ Address noise impacts to trail from other active users <br />^ Add trees, plants for improved air quality <br />^ Locate restroom with runners in mind <br />Access/ Parking/ Circulation. <br />^ More safe crossings needed <br />^ Connect ballfields with parking <br />^ Willamette/ 29th a major barrier for bikes/ pedestrians <br />^ Analyze all traffic impacts: #1 neighborhood issue <br />^ Other uses also add to traffic <br />Active Recreation <br />^ Consider moving jogging path to east side: <br />Research Adidas giving history <br />^ Address loss of 90' baseball sooner rather than later <br />^ Work closer with 4J: <br />High demand, shortage of fields, recent losses <br />Address 4J field losses <br />^ -Winterize pool <br />^ Address water quality issues at dog park <br />^ Ballfields should be flexible for variety of users (rugby, lacrosse, ultimate, etc.) <br />^ Other field sites at Tugman and Kincaid <br />^ Dog Park: <br />Use volunteers <br />Double gate entries are great <br />^ Higher $ Items <br />^ Sports use increasing (kids and adults) <br />^ Recognize site constraints (ie. flat sites for soccer) <br />^ Address schedule challenges <br />Natural Resources <br />^ ..Increase restoration opportunities <br />^ Concerns about boardwalk (maintenance and safety) <br />^ Keep options for creek meander open: <br />Consider relocation of jogging trail per 1994 plan <br />Keep westside for seasonal use <br />^ Neighborhood supports passive recreation <br />^ Support habitat and access to hear and see wildlife <br />^ Look at variety of funding sources <br />^ More bang for buck <br />Amazon Park 12/15/03 <br />Workshop 2 Report Page 6 <br />
