I am constantly impressed by the engagement
and commitment of the people who live here and .their willingness to
~~ dedicate themselves to this community's success. Through community
~ ` organizations, neighborhood associations, businesses, advocacy groups
'~~` and civic commissions and boards, thousands of volunteers regularly
give their time and talent to Eugene. That is an asset many other
communities would love to have. Thank you all.
We have a great deal to be proud of. The Ciry of Eugene continues to
be recognized for its innovative approaches to complex urban issues, its
talented and dedicated staff,'and the quality of services it provides. From
the recent accreditation of the Fire Department to the construction of
RiverPlay, a one-of-a-kind playground experience for kids of all ages
and abilities, we are putting our best foot forward in creative, sustainable
ways.
As the title of this report suggests, building and maintaining a sustainable
future for generations to come in Eugene requires the commitment and
effort of every one of us. The Ciry Council's goals and priority issues
reflect this worthy objective and are the basis for each decision we make.
We must be vigilant in protecting the qualities that make this community
special while creatively working to ensure that Eugene is a welcoming,
safe, and prosperous place for everyone.
It is an honor to serve as your Mayor and to present this report
highlighting the many noteworthy accomplishments we have achieved
together. I look forward to the coming year.
Sincerely,
Coverphotos (left to rigbt, from top): downtown hanging flower baskets; Eugene police offieorparh'ci,~~arta~' u~ V~~NIh ~iu,m1 rr~rt~s~,Ri~; kkrt~~ ~ 'l~r,1 I ~ir~~ ,5"tation 19;
Skyview Park; swim meet atAmaZon Pool,• entertainment at the Ia'brarygrand staircase
I~-
/ ~. p
~~
Kitty Pier y
Mayor
