astear Treat ent
"In 2006 we provided wastewater services to the Eugene-Springfield metro population of more than 220,000 people. With 24
hour-a-day operation of the treatment plant and 49 pump stations, we treated almost 16 billion gallons of wastewater. This
equates to more than enough wastewater to fill Autzen Stadium 48 times. We take pride in being the responsible caretakers to
clean the community's wastewater. The treatment processes protect our community, downstream users, and the Willamette River
ecosystem by consistently removing over 95 percent of pollutants. We strive to produce effluent that falls under the maximum
allowable limits for ammonia total suspended solids, carbonaceous biochemical oxygen demand and all of the many other
parameters defined in our permit.
This past year, we had the additional challenge of maintaining smooth wastewater treatment operations while major construction
began on the digesters and clarifiers. During construction, the plant had to operate with fewer than normal clarifiers and digesters
on-line. For contractors to gain access to areas of the plant designed for continuous operation, shut downs of the facility were
necessary for several hours at a time. We focus on safety while working around construction crews, cranes, and other large pieces
of equipment. Due to the quality of our treatment plant staff,we were able to safely navigate all of these obstacles while still
meeting our responsibilities to the community."
Kim Olsen,WastewaterTech II-Operations ~
