From the I' ~ ~ ' n1, " ~ ~ <br /> K~.1 ~ ` ~ q _3, ; <br /> ~ <br /> Downtown Vision in 2000 and the Downtown Plan in 2004, the City ~ _ _ <br /> has worked to articulate and focus our goals and efforts to strengthen y - - ~~~3 <br /> the vitality, density and diversity of this core area in our downtown. i i~ ~ , ~ ~ ~ ; <br /> Design and construction work to open the former pedestrian mall - _ ~ ~ `y~ , <br /> along Broadway was completed in 2002, and design standards for this ~ `-T`~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ <br /> section of Broadway were adopted in 2003. These actions collectively ~ <br /> laid the groundwork fora comprehensive redevelopmentstrategyfor - ~ ,i*,f,,~ is <br /> - ~i <br /> West Broadway. In late 2005, private efforts to consolidate a majority ~ ~ " <br /> of the properties along West Broadway between Willamette and ~ , ~ <br /> Charrielton streets for redevelopment were unsuccessful. In January ~ _ ~ <br /> 2006, City staff began working with a private consultant to obtain ~ "T ~ ~ ~ , <br /> purchase options in the same area.. ~ ~ ~ <br /> ~r . ` ~ , _ <br /> v ~ , <br /> In December 2006, the Urban Renewal Agency (URA) of the City of <br /> Eugene issued a Request for Qualifications to select a development ' ~ ° ~ 'f` 4 <br /> team with the vision and capacity to redevelop properties along WesfBroadwayRedevelopmentArea (outlined in purple) <br /> J West Broadway. In May 2007, the URA selected two teams, KWG <br /> Development Partners and Beam Development, and requested that <br /> the teams work together to create a concept for West .Broadway <br /> redevelopment. The URA also directed staffto hire an urban planner/ The combined KWG%Beam concept at the time of the URA's selection <br /> facilitatorandeconomicconsultanttoimplementapublicinvolvement included approximately 150,000 square feet, for the redevelopment <br /> process, including an eleven member advisory committee, to be of one full block and two half blocks. The uses under consideration <br /> appointed by Mayor Piercy. were housing, ground floor retail, office, underground parking, <br /> theatre, hotel and grocery.
