i <br />° Enhance functional design for streets, sidewalks and related public <br />improvements with carefully chosen design elements, including materials, <br />alignments, plantings and streetscape elements. <br />E. Objectives: <br />The focus of the Mayor and City Council Downtown Initiative is further realized <br />through the following key objectives: <br />° Public education, information and involvement <br />° Enhanced perception and.experience of a safe, activeand livable <br />downtown . <br />Coordination and links to other City Council Goals <br />Support for development and redevelopment efforts <br />F. Progress to Date:. <br />A great deal of planning work has already been done towards the revitalization of <br />downtown. In fact, there. have been a number of plans.and-policies for downtown <br />adopted within. the' last several decades. In 2000, the Eugene City Council <br />appointed the Committee for Greater Downtown Visioning to develop. a vision for: <br />downtown since the last plan was adoptedin .1984. The vision that emerged <br />promoted downtown as .a~ thriving, active urban center with ties to our rich natural <br />'heritage, a variety of intermingled activities, and safe; invi#ing streets. In 2001, <br />j City Council accepted the Vision for Greater Downtown Eugene. Based on <br />council direction, the Vision became the, basis of the updated Eugene-Downtown, <br />Plan, which was adopted by City Council in 2004.. <br />In the-six years since the Downtown Vision was completed in ~OOO, significant <br />public and private investment has supported the. transformation of downtown. <br />The following is a list of planning work that is in addition to the specific studies fior <br />- the Park Blocks, the courthouse area and downtown housing, which have .all <br />provided a solid framework for investment activity: <br />° Eugene Downtown Plan <br />° Downtown Eugene Public Safety Action Plan <br />° Central Area Transportation Study <br />° RiverFront Urban Renewal Plan Amendments <br />Specific development projects that have been completed. since'the Downtown <br />Vision include: <br />° Revitalized train depot station <br />° High Street Terrace <br />° <br />Tate Condominiums <br />0 <br />Lane Transit District Station <br />~. <br />` <br />' <br />- <br />____ _ t <br />~ <br />_. __ _ __ <br />
