OSHA Recordable Illness/Injury
OSHA-recordable illness/injury is defined by statute, and ~
generally does not include minor injuries. Public Works
employees experienced a total of 18 OSHA-recordable
illnesses/injuries during FY07, the same number as in ~
FY06. The graph on the right shows a four year history of
Public Works worker's compensation claims and the
number that were classified as OSHA Recordable 20
Injuries.
0
-0SHA L)ART RATE
(DART. Risk
Services staff has calculated DART rates for each
department in an effort to give departments a
mechanism for comparing their losses with previous
years. The DART rates for Public Works and the City
as a whole are shown in the chart below. The`DART
rate for Public Works remained at 5.0.
Motor Vehicle Accidents
The FY07 City-wide Vehicle Mileage Comparison graph
(see page 15) shows that Public Works employees drove
a total of 827,646 miles in city owned fleet vehicles during
FY07, up from the 810,357 driven in FY06, and a 19%
increase over the 694,970 miles driven in FY05. This figure
represents 25% of the total miles driven City-wide in FY07.
Public Works had a total of 15 motor vehicle accidents in
FY07 compared to 17 in FY06. Of this total, 13 (87%) were
classified as at-fault accidents. The two leading causes of
at-fault accidents were sideswiping or running into objects and backing-up. Risk Services will continue to work
with Public Works to reduce the number of at-fault accidents that are occurring.
Oregon OSHA Compliance/Consulting Activity _
Public Works had three interactions with OR OSHA in FY07,
one involving a park safety issue, and another for a requested
consultation on an equipment safety issue. The third
interaction involved a response to a confined space/fall issue.
Public Works also had three consultations with OSHA in
FY06.
53
FY04 FY05 FYOG FY07
#of Vlbrker~ Compensation palms
# of OSHA Recordable Ir~uries
