The following graphs illustrate the five-year history of Fire/EMS liability claims by.division. <br />12 <br />10 <br />8 <br />8 <br />4 <br />2 <br />0 <br />Field Ops Admin <br />FY03 FY04 ®FY05 ^ FY06 ^ FY07 <br />Fire/EMS Liability Claims <br />Feld OFs <br />Admin <br />loo <br />® F1'03 ^ FY04 ® FV05 FY06 ^ FY07 <br />Claim Trends -Motor Vehicle Accidents <br />All of the five claims filed in FY07 resulted from motor vehicle operations. <br />The causes of these at-fault accidents were: three incidents of <br />sideswiping a parked vehicle ($11,556), one incident of backing ($908), <br />and one incident involving damage caused when a fire hose fell from the <br />truck ($5,873). <br />One other claim from a prior year remains open. An at-fault motor vehicle <br />accident in May of 2006 involving the Haz Mat trailer remains open. <br />Although the property damage portion of that claim was settled, the bodily <br />injury claim remains open and is in dispute. <br />Litigation <br />No new lawsuits were filed in FY07. Two personnel related matters filed in FY06 are pending at this time. <br />WORKERS' COMPENSATION CLAIMS <br />The number of claims filed by Fire/EMS employees increased <br />to 75 in FY07 which is nine more claims than last year's total. <br />However, the number of disabling claims (claims where the <br />employee missed more than three days of work or suffered <br />impairment) dropped from 24 in FY06 to 18 in FY07. Only <br />14 of the claims remain open at the present time. <br />Claim costs for FY07 totaled $349,444 and represents 42% of <br />the City-wide total.
