Pedera~Priorities 2007 Introduction <br />The Trials. are expected to draw over 100,000 visitors. to the region and planning for the <br />:, event is currently underway. With the large number of expected attendees, public safety is <br />of great concern. Federal funds, combined with state and local resources, would ensure a <br />~ safe event that will benefit both the University and the surrounding communities for years to <br />. come. <br />• Interstate 5 and Franklin Boulevard/Glenwood Interchange Study -- In May 2006, the <br />Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) completed the- assessment of interchange <br />options along I-5 in the Glenwood area that included community dialogue and discussions <br />with the elected officials of Eugene, Springfield, and Lane County. The outcome of this <br />.effort was that sufficient interest exists to pursue interchange p~anning,.with the caveat that <br />. ; the Eugene City Council could not support new structures across the Willamette River near <br />Interstate 5. <br />This winter ODOT, the Cities of Eugene and Springfield,- Lane County, and Lane Transit <br />District initiated project planning and development. 'The goal for this phase. of the project is <br />to reach agreement among the involved jurisdictions on a transportation solution to improve <br />access to Eugene and Springfield from 1-5 in the Glenwood Area. <br />We very much appreciate our partnership and are grateful to you and your staffs for helping us <br />bring projects to completion.
