Transit Facility Design Standards
Turning Radius
2) Figure 7 shows a minimum turning radius for
buses in the Lane Transit District fleet. It is
anticipated that future buses will meet this
standard, even if they are the longer (60 foot)
articulated buses. LTD buses need a minimum
effective turning radius of 25 feet. (See Intersec-
tion Design Standards).
Figure 7
Path of Left Front .••• ~° ,.'•
Body Overhang
.•
......t.~ .....................
• • :~
• •.
• ,~< •
• ~ •
Path of Leff
Front Wheel
Beginning -- --
of Curve
41'
• i ~.^ss^^^ .^ ^^^.^^..^^.^^..^.^^
.•• ,~~ •.
Path of Right
•.•
Rear Wheel •
180° ~ ••'
•.
.• _.
compound •.
curve ••; •.
'.
•
'+~ ••
~••• 135°
• :. ~~° ••. ~ For vehicles turning into
F` ••• %~ ••'.~ a single 12 foot traffic lane
• R 28' ~' s•:
R=43' ~~ ~•.• without encroachment
R=Longest ~ ~ ~~ •• •.•• .into opposing traffic.
radius of ° R~48'
Smaller "lift" vehicles are
less restrictive in terms
of size and weight.
Minimum turning radius
is 20 feet.
1
1-~
8'-6"
10
