NFWF funds would be used for <br /> habitat restoration (Long Tom Watershed Council), invasive species and woody vegetation control (U.S. <br /> Bureau of Land Management), creation of a citizen science program for outreach and education <br /> (Willamette Resources and Education Network), monitoring existing threatened and endangered plant <br /> populations (Institute for Applied Ecology) and development of a landscape-scale plan for future <br /> protection of these plant species within the WEW (City of Eugene). Grant activities would occur on lands <br /> owned and managed by WEW Partners within the 3,000 acre West Eugene Wetlands and Long Tom <br /> Watershed. <br /> <br /> i <br /> Background: In August of this year, the West Eugene Wetlands Partners learned of grant funds available <br /> from NFWF's Native Plant Conservation Initiative. NFWF encouraged the WEW Partners to apply for <br /> these funds. Apre-proposal was submitted to NFWF in August, and upon review, NFWF invited a full <br /> proposal. The City would be the formal applicant in this grant, however, the grant funds would be divided <br /> among the WEW Partners participating and providing match. <br /> Funds Requested and Total Project Cost: The total project cost is $300,000. The City would apply for <br /> --____~7 $150,000 in funds, with the remaining project costs to be covered by matching funds. If awarded, each <br /> partner would receive the same amount in grant funds that they submitted as a match. The City would use <br /> $50,000 in grant funds toward managing native prairie habitats in the WestEugene Wetlands and $20,000 <br /> in grant funds for plan development for a total of $140,000 toward grant goals; $35,000 in grant. funds <br /> would be disbursed to the Institute for Applied Ecology for a total of $70,000 for monitoring, $30,000 in <br /> grant funds would be disbursed to the Willamette Resources and Education Network for a total of <br /> $60,000 for outreach and education, and $15,000 in grant funds would be disbursed to Long Tom <br /> Watershed Council for a total of $30,000 for habitat restoration. <br /> Match Required: NFWF grants require ~ minimum match to grant ratio of l:l. This funding package <br /> would meet NFWF's match requirement, with each partner contributing the same amount in match as <br /> would be received by that partner in grant funds. <br /> <br />
