i
.JONES Eric R
From: JOHNSON Eric P
Sent: Monday, October 20, 2008 7:15 AM
To: JONES Eric R
Cc: BLAIR Katie A
Subject: RE: Budget for leaf program TV ads
$1,500 seems reasonable.
! From: JONES Eric R
i Sent: Thursday, October 16, 2008 11:57 AM
To: JOHNSON Eric P
Cc: BLAIR Katie A
j Subject: Budget for leaf program N ads
1've been working with a sales rep from Comcast on possible leaf program TV commercials this fall. Last year we spent

J $1,000 for 90 spot. ads on Comcast channels such as CNN, Fox Sports Northwest, and A&E. That same schedule would
cost us $1,550 this year (mostly because of the effect of political ads, but I think I can negotiate somewhat of a better
deal). If we produce an ad (rather than using the old video PSA), I think we'd get more bang for our buck, but it would add
$575 to the cost.
I.
So, the big question is, do we want to budget for TV ads, and, if so; how much? If the answer is yes, I'd recommend
$1,500, to include a new produced ad plus whatever I can negotiate in terms of the number of spots. I think our key
.messages are "safety" and "good for the environment", with a goal of trying to reduce the total volume of leaves placed in
the street this seaon.
If you can let me know what your decision is on Monday, Oct. 20, I can get the wheels turning before I leave for APWA on
Tuesday.
I Thanks,
Eric Jones
Public Affairs Manager
Eugene Public Works
i eric.r1ones(a~ci.eugene.or.us
~ (541) 682-5523
(541) 682-6826 (fax)
(541) 954-2938 (cell)
www.eugene-or.gov/pw
i
i

I
1
