September 11, 2008
CONTACT: Joe Ramirez, Project Manager, 541-682-5228
From Public Information Section, 682-5523 or 954-2938
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Traffic Advisory
Paving Work Around New Courthouse Means Nighttime Lane Closures

I
Motorists in the vicinity of the new federal courthouse will encounter nighttime lane closures
and brief delays as paving work gets under way Monday, Sept. 15.
Crews from Wildish Construction are scheduled to repave Franklin Boulevard/Broadway/
Mill Street from 11th Avenue to the intersection of High Street and Seventh Avenue and the on- and
off-ramps at the south end of the Ferry Street Bridge viaduct. The work includes grinding off the
top layer of deteriorated pavement and putting down a new asphalt concrete surface.
Most of the work will be done at night, between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. During construction
hours, traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction, and motorists will be directed by signs
and flaggers. All lanes generally will be opened during the daytime; however, motorists and
cyclists are cautioned that lane surfaces may be very rough and there may be equipment and
workers in the. right of way.
Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid construction delays. The new
Hilyard Street bypass is open and will not be under construction.
The repaving work helps meet the objectives of Eugene's pavement preservation program
and also is part of a multi-year project to improve transportation facilities in the new federal
courthouse district. The courthouse transportation project is scheduled to be substantially
completed late this fall
The paving work is scheduled to be completed by October 3, weather permitting. For the
most current information on this and other local road projects, go to the City of Eugene's trafficweb
site, www.eugene-or.gov/traffic, or call the metro roadwork hotline at 984-8484.
Eugene Public Works • www.eugene-or.gov/pw
858 Pearl Street, Eugene, Oregon 97501 • 541-682-5523 • fax 541-682-6826 • e-mail pwadmin@ci.eugene.or.us
~
