According to the most current full-year information available
I
from DMV, there were a total of 1,821 crashes in 2007, down slightly 1,905 crashes in 2006 and
well below the 10-year average of 2,049 crashes per year. However, 769 injuries were reported in
2007, up from the 742 reported injuries in 2006 and well above the 10-year average of 697 injuries
per year. The report also showed five fatal crashes, 61 crashes involving bicycles, and 23 crashes
involving pedestrians. The 2007 statistics includes two fatalities related to bike crashes and two
pedestrian fatalities.
The report also details crashes by location. The "top 1:0" intersections for crashes in 2007
were: Coburg Road at Martin Luther King Boulevard/Country Club (30 crashes); 11th Avenue at
Bailey Hill Road (26 crashes); Coburg Road at Oakmont Way (22 crashes); Beltline Highway at the
eastbound exit to Delta Highway (21 crashes); Seventh Avenue at Jefferson Street (21 crashes);
Highway 99W at Roosevelt Boulevard (20 crashes); River Road & River Avenue/Silver Lane (16

I' crashes); 11th Avenue at Bertelsen Road (16 crashes); 11th Avenue at Seneca Road (15
crashes); Coburg Road at Willakenzie Road (15 crashes); and Delta Highway at Green Acres
Road (15 crashes).
For the most part, the data reflect higher crash numbers at higher-volume intersections,
according to City Traffic Engineer Tom. Larsen. "Looking at the numbers helps us focus our efforts
to make safety and operational improvements in the transportation system," said Larsen.
The complete set of data is available on the City's web site (go to www.eugene-or.gov/pw
and click on the link to "2007 Crash Data" under "Today's Top Links."
_
Eugene Public Works • www.eugene-or.gov/pw
858 Pearl Street, Eugene, Oregon 97501 • 541-682-5523 • fax 541-682-6826 • e-mail pwadmin@ci.eugene.or.us
_ _
