We have a department wide annual picnic. <br /> At the request of employees, no formal recognition is done at this event, however through individual <br /> conversations, and fun activities, employees feel valued and appreciated. This annual event is well received <br /> and has high attendance. Employees are encouraged to bring their families and invite others from the <br /> larger City organization that they work closely with. This annual event has been so well received that other <br /> departments have started doing annual events with their staff. <br /> The practice of employee recognition varies by division. There is no city-wide standard on how employees <br /> receive recognition for longevity or significant accomplishments. When employees leave the organization, <br /> a send-off or party is typicallyheld, with a plaque or some other acknowledgement for their term of <br /> service. The type of memento gifted is a judgment call based on individual interest and the amount of <br /> funds collected. Supervisors will often use a-mail to communicate their appreciation or positive <br /> acknowledgement to employees. <br /> .Following is a listing of the various recognition practices engaged in by the divisions of PW:. <br /> Administration -annual workshop that includes team building exercises and recognition for current <br /> employees that have reached a milestone in their career or had a significant achievement. This is also an <br /> opportunity to recognize work teams that have gone above and beyond. <br /> Airport -Annual employee recognition event. Safety awards, years of service, extraordinary effort, <br /> innovative ideas and acknowledgement for special certifications and projects. <br /> Engineering - At an annual training day, awards are given for longevity in 5 year increments. Also, other <br /> unique recognition awards are given based on "votes" or recommendations from the staff. Two awards are <br /> given annually - Geraldo for humor in the workplace (since 1999) and Ernest for outstanding service. <br /> Maintenance and Parks & Open Space -Annual employee recognition event. Safety awards, years of <br /> service awards and acknowledgement for special certifications and projects. Last year the awards <br /> categories were nominated by the employees.
