Management Practices Self-Assessment
External trainers and/or consultants are selected through either a public bid/request for

Ali proposaUqualifications, or by selecting the consultant from a qualified pool of providers determined by
Purchasing.
Supervisors are expected to review employee training records annually to ensure training requirements are
being met. Each division is responsible for managing on-the job or cross training requirements and
opportunities. Safety trainings are offered through the Safety and Loss Control, Health and Fitness, the
department Safety Coordinator and department safety committees.
Many job classifications (such as lead workers and supervisors) list'training of others' as a job requirement.
Less formal arrangements are set up based on availability of trained staff, interest in taking on a trainer
role, internal staff that have expertise on subject matter, and the needs of the staff being trained.
©2004 American Public Works Association Version 5.0
38
