If a position's duties change significantly,
PW supervisors and employees can request to have a position reviewed by HR. In any instance, approval
for the review must include that of the division manager and the department executive manager prior to HR
beginning a review.
All job postings provide a comprehensive overview of the position; salary range; knowledge, skills and
abilities necessary to do the job; education and training/experience guidelines; selection process; and an
overview of the City's benefits package. If the position is assigned to work anything other than a standard
Monday -Friday, 8:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m. job, that information is noted on the job posting; however, positions
can be assigned to any work shift or schedule, given proper notification (for AFSCME represented
positions).
An effort is made to periodically review position descriptions. Currently that review happens during the
evaluation process; when there is a vacancy prior to posting the job; during reorganizations; when there is a
change in service, job requirements, and/or certification/license requirements.
©2004 American Public Works Association Version 5.0
19
