f
City of Eugene
Human Resource and Risk Services Policies
available are educational aid, in-house training programs, out-of-organization training,
and professional memberships.
3-228:1 Educational Aid
I
Following are guidelines managers should follow when deciding to approve
requests for financial assistance to an employee who completes academic,
vocational, or adult education courses to acquire additional skills and knowledge
directly related to their current job and/or assist them to advance or transfer to
another position within the organization.
I
Departments are primarily responsible for the administration of educational funds.
Each department should set aside funds to be used for educational aid within their
travel and training budget. A form is required showing department approval prior
to enrollment. Upon completion of the course work, a copy of the form and any
documentation will be submitted to HRRS for inclusion in the employee's personnel
file.
The City may make the following options available to employees at the
department's discretion: flex-time and shift changes; attendance during on-duty
time; leave without pay; reduced working hours. Employees should recognize that
major disruptions in the work place may preclude the use of these options.
FLSA provisions need to be applied to FLSA covered employees.

~ Eli 'bili
The City will reimburse tuition costs of full and part-time regular employees who
are off initial probation and have successfully completed one year of service with
the City. At the City's initiation, an employee with less than one year's service
(whether on probation or not) may get tuition, reimbursement if it is determined that
the employee needs a course to enhance their skills. Before enrolling in the course,
the employee must have the approval of their immediate supervisor and the
Department Executive on the "Request for Educational Aid" form (obtained from
HRRS). No applications for educational assistance will be accepted after classes
for the course have started.
Course/Credit Limitations:
An employee may apply for reimbursement for up to two classes per term/gixarter
Human Resource and Risk Services Revised: 09/16/02
_ _ _
