Ts-~ <br /> December 20; 2008 <br /> CONTACT: Eric Jones, Public Affairs Manager, 541-954-2938 <br /> From Public Information Section, 682-5523 or 954-2938 <br /> FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <br /> Eugene Lifts Emergency Parking Ban <br /> The City of Eugene has lifted a ban on parking on emergency ice-snow routes and <br /> deactivated its Public Works emergency command center, effective at 11:30 a.m. today. <br /> The decision to cease emergency operations is based on a forecast by the National <br /> Weather Service that temperatures will be above freezing on the valley floor through the weekend. <br /> Public Works staff continues to weather conditions and will reinstate the parking ban if ice <br /> or more than an inch of snow accumulates on city streets. <br /> Except for a short break on Thursday, Eugene Public Works has been in round-the-clock <br /> operations since early Monday morning. As of Thursday, crews .had applied more than 1,000 cubic <br /> yards of sand and used several thousand gallons of liquid deicer to provide traction on priority ice- <br /> snow routes.
