The focus of this project
was to implement the final phase of restoration at Dragonfly Bend, a 77-acre
site within the West Eugene Wetlands. Dragonfly Bend is a mosaic of
wetlands, stream channels, and uplands. The site, which includes two channels
of Amazon Creek, was highly modified by agriculture prior to City of Eugene
acquisition in 2002.
Beginning in summer 2004, the City of Eugene began implementing a
Packs and open com rehensive ro ect at Dra onfl Bend to enhance or restore al177 acres on
Space Planning p p J g Y
the site. Using City and Federal funds we have implemented restoration
Pans Maintenance projects in the wetlands, stream, and riparian habitats. OWEB funds were .used
Urban Forestry to complement this work by restoring several upland habitat areas within the
larger site. The project included the following tasks performed between 2004 and
2007.
Fa112004: Project initiation, included earth work such as site contouring.
Summer 2006: Site preparation (i.e.; application of glyphosate) and addition of
soil amendments. '
Fall 2006: Seeded the site with approximately 35 species of native plants.
Spring 2007: Sowed seeds and planted plugs of Kincaid's lupine. Managed
weeds across the entire site (hand weeding and minor spot spraying with
glyphosate). Monitored the site.
Fall/Winter 2007: Mowed site. Reseeded Kincaid's lupine and expanded
reintroduction area.
Spring 2008: Monitor site again. Continue maintenance.
