t ~ ~
Public Works
Parks & Open Space Division
I
City of Eugene
1820 Roosevelt Blvd.
Eugene, Oregon 97402
MEMORAND (541) 682-4800
UM
(541) 682-4882 FAX
i vwvw.ci.eugene.or:us
Date: August 22; 2003
j
! To: Dennis Taylor, City Manager
From: Carolyn Weiss, Parks and Open Space Planning

I
Subject: Interagency Agreement- Grant funding for Whilamut Natural Area
Parks and en S ace staff submitted a
Op p grant application to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife
in the fall of 2001. The application requested funding for habitat improvements for the Whilamut Natural .
Area of Alton Baker Park in the amount of $70,950. Due to delays in the approval process, the grant
award has just recently become official.
Attached is an agreement for signature, between ODFW and the City of Eugene. The agreement commits
the City to the work outlined in the grant application, and identifies procedures for reimbursement and
record keeping. The procedures are reasonable, and staff are excited about the work these funds will
facilitate. Benefits of this grant will include increased riparian plantings along the Willamette River,
better availability of native upland grasses for prairie restoration projects, educational signage through out
the park, and support for the Stream Team Volunteer program. City matching funds will be provided in
the form of staff time spent coordinating the project.
Please contact Carolyn Weiss, project manager, with any questions, 682-4914.
_
