This includes $15 million for the <br /> pavements in general plus an additional $5 million for high volume highways <br /> in urban areas. A smaller investment would result in fewer miles of pavement <br /> overlays. <br /> Pavement preservation program supplement: $15 million ~ <br /> <br /> The Oregon Transportation Commission set the goal of maintaining 90 percent of <br /> state highway pavement mileage in "fair" or "better" condition. The most recent <br /> (2006) Pavement Condition Report found that 87 percent of state highway mileage <br /> was in fair or better condition. <br /> Historical pavement performance data has suggested that between 500 to 550 <br /> centerline miles of state highway needs to be rehabilitated annually to maintain <br /> statewide pavement conditions due to normal deterioration. If this deterioration <br /> rate is not matched by improvements completed by pavement rehabilitation <br /> treatments, the overall condition of the state highway system will decline. <br /> <br /> The high cost of asphalt and fuel decreased the number of miles the State <br /> Highway Preservation Program could resurface in 2007 and 2008. It is anticipated <br /> that the percentage of pavements in "fair" or "better" condition in 2008 will decline <br /> by a few percentage points.
