i

ter
1 ~ 1 . 1 1 1 1 1 '
March 14, 2005
Planning .Objectives
The following planning objectives were established at the onset of the study and address the
each of the specific planning corridors:
Amazon Creek Planning Corridor
• Water Quality
• Wildlife Habitat
• Recreational Opportunities
• Flood Protection
• Enhanced Community Vitality (Quality of Life)
Cedar Creek Planning Corridor
• Riparian Habitat and Fish Management
• Flood Hazard Protection
• Adequate Drainage Services
• Water Quality Protection
• Public Use
Key Issues and... Opportunities
The following list includes issues and opportunities of both a general nature and site specific
nature. These are a compilation of input received during the Metro Waterways citizen
involvement process and the February 24, 2005 study team site visits.
Amazon Creek Planning Corridor
Comments from February 24 Staff and Technical Assistance Pool Site Visit:
• Significant down-cutting of channel bottom and slumping is an issue in numerous
locations on Amazon Creek.
• Runoff from headwater streams will continue to increase as additional development
occurs in the south hills.
• The east branch of Amazon Creek is dry with the flow piped down Martin Street and into
the west branch. The increased flow is causing down-cutting in the west branch. Lack
of flow in the east branch has diminished habitat. The City plans to re-direct the flow
back into the east branch. Question: should this work be delayed so that it can be
included in the Corps alternatives assessment of the Amazon Planning Corridor.
