~, ,
, :
c
be incorporated into the . Terminal Area Plan. Phasing ~will be
developed to allow implementation with a minimum of interference
~ with Airport operations. Cost estimates for each phase will also be
~ prepared.
2. Airfield Alternatives
Development alternatives will also include improvements to the
' Airport's airfield. Cost/benefit analyses must be integrated for each
proposed improvement. PotentiaT airfield projects at Mahlon Sweet ~
Field include:
. Strengthening and lengthening Runway 16/34 for the next
generation of aircraft such as the B-757, A=320, and Air Bus
. New parallel runway and ramp area for general aviation aircraft
. Lengthening af Runway 3/21 for limited airline operations and.
to allow rriidfield operations for Runway 21
. Limiting the use of or abandoning Runway 3/21
~ . Taxiway identification system '
n
. . Runway/taxiway lighting improvements
. Helicopter landing pad location
3. Land Use Alternatives '
Preyious steps in this analysis will have established several
important parameters:
. What is the ultimate demand for Mahlon Sweet Field?
What airfield facilities are needed to meet this demand?
Wtiat = landside and support facilities are needed to meet
demand? ~
. . What are ~the Airport's fixed land uses and what areas are
• available for nonaeronautical or commercial uses?
' With the answers to these questions available from prior analysis, it
will be possible to determine the parcels available for other
'~ development, such as a hotel site' ~and/or other commercial
developments. Once these areas have been identified, the
alternatives analysis will explore these and other commercial
development options: The analysis will; review options for using
parcels which are undeveloped along with exploring alternatives for
the redevelopment of those parcels that have leases that will expire
in the short term.
