~ .( <br />1-1-04 <br />(4-Wire) <br />Audible -Tactile Pedestrian Signal System Spec <br />GENERAL DESCRIPTION <br />The Audible-Tactile pedestrian signal system shall consist of all electronic equipment, <br />mounting hardware, power supplies, push buttons, and sign faces which is designed to <br />provide both a button with a raised vibrating tactile arrow along with a variety of audible <br />sounds for different traffic signal functions. The systems shall consist of a Control Unit <br />and Pole Mounting Assembly, as described below. <br />1. FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS <br />a. The system shall vibrate a tactile arrow button during the WALK interval <br />following a button push. <br />b. The system shall have the field-selectable function known at "Locating Tone". <br />This means that during the FLASHING DON'T WALK and the DON'T WALK <br />intervals, the system shall provide a pole locating tone that emanates from the <br />Pedestrian Push Button Station. <br />c. The system shall have the field selectable function known as "Extended Push <br />Activation". This means that the audible WALK message will only be activated <br />and sound during the WALK interval if the button is depressed for a field <br />selectable minimum period of time. Also, for the following walk phase, the <br />volumes will be increased to play at a settable minimum volume level. <br />d. The system shall have the field selectable function known as "Informational <br />Message". This means that the direction of travel or a custom message giving the <br />location of the street to cross and the intersection (or other information) will be <br />vocalized only when the button is depressed for a minimum field selectable time. <br />e. The system shall have at least five field selectable walk sound options including a <br />cuckoo, a chirp and a standard or custom voice message. <br />f. All sound levels shall adjust automatically in response to ambient noise over a 60 <br />decibel range. <br />g. All electronic components and wiring shall operate within a temperature range of <br />-34° to +74°C. <br />h. All field selectable options must be settable using an infrared remote with <br />password security. <br />CONTROL UNIT <br />Shall be powered from the 120 VAC, WALK/DON'T WALK ped head lamp <br />indications. The unit shall conform to the following specifications. <br />a. POWER REQUIREMENTS: 115 VAC, 60Hz, (100 ma, typical} <br />b. Separate power inputs for "WALK" and "DON'T WALK" ,each with a %4 AMP <br />fuse mounted on the board. <br />
