~~N DEPg9~,
z ews Re%ase
1l"
9gNSPOA~P'~
Apri128, 200
CONTACT: Doh McLane, ODOT Assistant Project Manager, 686-7610
From Eugene Public Works Public Information Section, 682-5523
FOR IMME I~TE RELEASE
TURNS NO LONGER ALLOWED AT BELTLINE AND ROYAL
A pe went prohibition on turns at the intersection of Beltline Highway and Royal Avenue is
scheduled to o into effect Wednesday, May 17.
The t affxc change is related to the improvements being made to Beltline Highway. The Oregon
Department o Transportation earlier this year began atwo-year, $9.2 million project to widen and
improve Beltline Highway from north of Royal to the railroad overcrossing south of Roosevelt. When
the work is d ne, Beltline will bridge over Royal, and the two roadways will be completely separated.
During the next phase of bridge construction, traffic in both directions on Beltline will be
detoured onto the new lanes on the west side of Beltline. Although for now the Beltline-Royal
intersection ill be at the same grade, there is not adequate lane space for safe turns.
Also as part of the Beltline project, Roosevelt Boulevard has been extended from west of
Beltline to D ebo. When the new segment of Roosevelt opens on Wednesday, west-end motorists who
had been usin Royal to access Beltline can use Roosevelt or Barger to turn onto Beltline.
Moto fists driving through the Beltline construction zone should be alert for lane changes,
flaggers, wa ing signs, and temporary signals. For updates on area traffic projects, call the City of
Eugene traffid relief hotline at 964-8484, or on the Internet at www.ci.eugene.or.us/pw/traffic or at
ODOT's new jweb site, www.tripcheck.com.

~ir.~?
i
~I
I
