The Oregon
Department o Transportation earlier this year began atwo-year, $9.2 million project to widen and
improve Beltline Highway from north of Royal to the railroad overcrossing south of Roosevelt. When
the work is d ne, Beltline will bridge over Royal, and the two roadways will be completely separated.
During the next phase of bridge construction, traffic in both directions on Beltline will be
detoured onto the new lanes on the west side of Beltline. Although for now the Beltline-Royal
intersection ill be at the same grade, there is not adequate lane space for safe turns.
Also as part of the Beltline project, Roosevelt Boulevard has been extended from west of
Beltline to D ebo. When the new segment of Roosevelt opens on Wednesday, west-end motorists who
had been usin Royal to access Beltline can use Roosevelt or Barger to turn onto Beltline.
Moto fists driving through the Beltline construction zone should be alert for lane changes,
flaggers, wa ing signs, and temporary signals.
