The Public Works Department began draining the channel <br /> <br /> below the mill ~ond early Thursday so the water level would be low enough to allow Saturday's <br /> cleanup activities. The mill pond will not be affected by the drawdown, and the lower mill race <br /> I <br /> <br /> will be refilled ~s soon as the cleanup is completed. Public Works also will provide equipment <br /> for the cleanup, and haul off debris gathered by volunteers. <br /> The cleanup runs from noon to 4 p.m. The mill race cleanup is a valuable community <br /> service because the mill race flows directly into the Willamette River, and any debris thrown into <br /> <br /> the millrace ca wiind up polluting the river. Volunteers are also welcome to enhance water <br /> quality at other ocations around the city.
