H ad Gardener Michael Robert says the rhododendrons are loaded with blossoms this
year and e expects them to reach their peak around mid-April, although some will be
blooming ~as late as July.
Fr~e tours of the Rhododendron Garden at Hendricks Park are offered at I p.m every
Sunday u~til May 2IS`, rain or shine. Tours begin at the park's main entrance at Skyline Blvd.
in East Eugene and last about two hours. The tours wind through the park's hillside on gravel
paths, so ppropriate clothing and comfortable shoes are essential. The top of the garden is
fairly lev 1 and is accessible to most wheelchairs. For further assistance, please contact the
Public Works Maintenance office at 682-4800 at least 48 hours in advance.
Tours will be led by the park's gardeners, who will offer a history of the park and
garden, i entify various plants, and answer questions. The tours feature different plants in
bloom ea h week, so come often to enjoy the full scope of the garden. Parking is limited this
year because Hendricks Park's historic picnic shelter is being re-built after last year's
devastating wind storm and the garden restrooms are also being reconstructed. For more
information on Rhododendron Garden tours, contact the Hendricks Park office at 682-5234 or
visit www.ci.eugene.or.us/pw/parks.

--i
rr~ublic Works • Administration • City of Eugene • 858 Pearl Street • Eugene, OR 97401
Phone: (541) 682-5262 • FAX: (541) 682-6826 • www.ci.eugene.or.us
