The Public Works Transportation Division installed the curbing Tuesday, March
21, on Willamette Street to create a protected area in the crosswalk for pedestrians, including
elderly residents of nearby Lane Towers, to stand while waiting to cross the street.
The y~llow-painted curbing effectively reduces the curb-to-curb crossing distance in the
street from 44!; to 24 feet. The improvement will also allow pedestrians a better view around

parked cars ar}d trucks of oncoming traffic on Willamette Street. The new curbing material,

manufactured by a company in Tualatin, is lighter and easier to handle and costs less than

standard concrete curbing.
I
Public Works • Administration • City of Eugene • 858 Pearl Street • Eugene, OR 97401
Phone: (541) 682-5262 • FAX: (541) 682-6826 • www.ci.eugene.or.us
