Quantities of trees are limited, and the best time to plant trees is in the
inter or early s ring, so people are encouraged to call before March 15 if they're interested in
lanting street tr~es this season.
Through Il~the NeighborWoods ro ram, the Cit of Eu ene encoura es volunteers to lant
P g Y g g p
nd take care of rees along rights-of--way within city limits. Since the program was started in
992, more than 6,000 street trees have been planted by homeowners, businesses, schools, and
ivic groups and other local organizations.
Here's h w the program works. The City provides street trees suitable for specific
1 cations and als takes care of pruning and other major tasks. NeighborWoods volunteers help
lant the trees if hey are able, and they also water, weed, and keep an eye on young street trees,
urturing the tre s through the first critical years. Once trees become well established, they

r quire less care lthough watering is always a good idea during periods of drought.
For more information about the NeighborWoods program, call Chris Girard,
eighborWoods coordinator, at 682-4800, or on the Internet at
.ci.eugene.or.us/pw/tree/freetree.htm.
I, Pu lic Works • Administration • City of Eugene • 858 Pearl Street • Eugene, OR 97401
Phone: (541) 682-5262 • FAX: (541) 682-6826 • www.ci.eugene.or.us
